FAQs

Who started the South Meck Foundation and why?
The South Meck Foundation is a non-profit organization formed by alumni and parents who want to ensure ongoing student success by being able to recruit and retain high quality teachers. The teachers of North Carolina are some of the lowest paid in the country while frequently being asked to adapt to new testing standards and other quality measures. Teacher morale and job satisfaction is increased when they who are supported in the classroom and in their own professional development.

How does the Foundation decide what to support?
The South Meck Foundation works closely with school administration to identify funding priorities that address critical needs of the school, have the potential to positively impact a majority of students, and are outside the scope of the school budget.

Why should I contribute? Aren’t my taxes enough?
South Mecklenburg High School receives its funding from the state of North Carolina and Mecklenburg County.
As the state budget for education has been slashed, the spending per pupil has dropped. The Foundation will increase the ability to place books, computers and software and other critical supplies in the hands of our students and teachers. A contribution to the Foundation shows our teachers that what they do is so very important and that they are valued.

How much should I give?
Please make a commitment to your school and give as much as you can! Large or small, every donation makes a difference and the Foundation appreciates gifts of all sizes.

Are my donations tax-deductible?
Yes. The South Meck Foundation is a non-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Tax ID# 47-4401285.

How can I be sure that my donation will stay at South Mecklenburg High School and not used by the larger district?
The Charlotte Mecklenburg School District enthusiastically supports the efforts of the Foundation for
South Mecklenburg High School and recognizes that the funds raised are earmarked for specific purposes
at South Meck only.
